Musei Capitolini

Housed inside Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo, in the piazza redesigned by Michelangelo, the museums conserve artworks like the Capitoline Wolf, the original statue of Marcus Aurelius, the Dying Gaul, Bernini’s Medusa and The Fortune Teller by Caravaggio. A section of the museum is now in the Centrale Montemartini. The museums were founded by Sixtus IV when he gifted the people of Rome some statues.
