Built at the crossroads with via Ardeatina, where according to legend, Peter met Jesus during his flight from Rome, asking him where he was going, to which Christ answered that he was going to Rome to be crucified again, convincing the first pope to return to the city and accept his martyrdom. Footprints on a marble slab in the church are said to be of Christ, though it is actually a pre-Christian ex-voto.
