Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli

  • Piazza di San Pietro in Vicoli

Nothing remains of the 5th century church, the Baths of Titus and the Neronian domus. To make up for these losses, however, Julius II is buried here, whose tomb was designed by Michelangelo and vaunts his imposing Moses. According to tradition, the church conserves some of the chains that bound St. Peter in the nearby Mamertine Prison, the oldest in Rome.
