Arco di Costantino

With its three arches, it is the largest triumphal arch in Rome and symbolically inaugurates via dei Fori. The Senate dedicated it to Emperor Constantine in 315 to commemorate his victory over Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge as well as his 12 years of rule. Recent studies have dated it to the era of Hadrian, however. The decorations show a variety of styles, from classical to medieval: a veritable open-air “museum”.
